Recap:
One of the highly anticipated matchups from last weekend, the Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool, was postponed due to Storm Darragh. Saturday continued with struggles for both Manchester clubs, with City drawing 2-2 with Palace and United losing 2-3 to Nottingham Forest.
On Sunday, Bournemouth got another late goal to steal a win at Ipswich, while Spurs blew a 2-0 lead at home to lose 3-4 to Chelsea in a London Derby.
Our Best Bets went 1-2, losing on both Manchester clubs and winning Bournemouth. Across the Globe we hit 3 of 5, cashing in on Go Ahead Eagles, Real Madrid, and Boca Juniors.
Upcoming Matches:
The highlight of Matchweek 16 is, without a doubt, the Manchester Derby. Can Ruben Amorim best Pep Guardiola again like he did with Sporting CP just before taking over at Manchester United? Or will City finally start getting back on track after their worst run of form in recent memory? We’ll find out on Sunday!
Let’s get to the bets:
Best Bets:
Pick #1: Arsenal to Win to Nil -130 (Dec. 14, 2024; 10:00 a.m. EST):
For our first Best Bet, I’m backing an Arsenal side that seem to be back at their best. They haven’t lost in 7 matches (winning 5, drawing 2) and Bukayo Saka looks to be back to his star form.
Their opponents, Everton, had an emphatic 4-0 win over Wolves at home last match, then this week received the news that the Premier League approved a takeover of the club, something I understand is quite welcomed by Everton fans.
Unfortunately for those Everton fans, I think the positivity is only fleeting, as I expect them to lose handily to Arsenal. Before their 4-0 win, they were on a streak of 4 games without scoring a goal. I’m betting that the Wolves game, a much easier opponent than Arsenal, was a blip and Everton will play out another game without scoring a goal.
You may need to shop around a bit to find the best line for this, as this prop can tend to vary amongst books.
Pick #2: Brighton Moneyline -110 (Dec. 15, 2024; 9:00 a.m. EST):
For our next bet, I’m fading a team I was high on to start the year but who have officially landed themselves on my “Do Not Bet” List for the time-being: Crystal Palace.
CP travel to Brighton, a team that they haven’t beat in their last 6 league matches against one another. Brighton also have yet to lose at home in the EPL this season.
Palace look set to be without a few players, including Joel Ward and Adam Wharton.
I like Brighton to get the win here at home and like the line at -110.
Pick #3: Tottenham Moneyline -145 (Dec. 15, 2024; 2:00 p.m. EST):
For my final Best Bet, I’m backing my Tottenham Hotspurs to get back to winning ways on the road to Southampton.
The logic behind this bet is simply that Spurs are the better team and, while they’ve struggled in defense and with inconsistency, they should have plenty enough firepower to get beyond Southampton.
Southampton are last in the EPL, last in average goals (Spurs are tied for 2nd), and 19th in goals conceded. They’re only 6th for average possession, but they often try to build from the back at their peril, something Spurs should pounce all over.
Across the Globe:
Napoli Moneyline -130 (Italy; Serie A)
Marseille Moneyline +115 (France; Ligue 1)
Boca Juniors Moneyline +120 (Argentina; Liga Profesional)
Athletic Club Moneyline +115 (Spain; La Liga)
Anderlecht Moneyline +105 (Belgium; Pro League)
Season Record:
Best Bets: 19-25
Across the Globe: 39-38
