For an overview of what to expect in this Bettor in Green Article Series, check out my EPL Season Preview and Futures article here.

Recap:

We had some movement in the top half of the table this weekend, as the race for Champions League qualification spots is heating up!

This year, the top 5 EPL finishers will earn a berth into next year’s Champions League, with 6th getting a Europa League spot. Depending on the outcome of the FA Cup and how Newcastle finishes after winning the Carabao Cup, there could be a Europa League and Conference League spot available to the 7th and 8th place, respectively, in the EPL table.

With Chelsea getting a draw, Nottingham Forest getting a loss, and Newcastle and Man City getting wins, there was a shakeup in the top 6, with Newcastle jumping into 3rd, overtaking Forest in 4th. Man City jump in front of Chelsea, making up 5th and 6th, though Chelsea are tied on points with 7th place Aston Villa.

In other news, Liverpool could win the league this weekend if they win and Arsenal lose to Ipswich.

Our Best Bets went 1-2, losing on Nottingham Forest and on Salah Anytime Goalscorer. Across the Globe we hit 3 of 5.

Upcoming Matches:

This week, we’ll have a full slate of 10 matches taking place between Saturday and Monday. We’ll then get two extra matches (Manchester City v Aston Villa on Tuesday and Arsenal v Crystal Palace) on Wednesday.

These matches are being rescheduled from next weekend, as Man City, Villa, and Palace will all play in the FA Cup semifinals this weekend.

This leads to 5 straight days of EPL soccer, with only 2 days off before another matchweek begins. The games come thick and fast this time of year, which is great as a fan and bettor!

Let’s get to the bets:

Best Bets:

Pick #1: Manchester City Moneyline -110 (April 19, 2025; 10:00 a.m. EST):

For this first Best Bet, continuing to back a Manchester City side, despite their bad form this season.

I’ve been fading their opponents, Everton, most of the season. When David Moyes took over in January, they started doing a bit better, having secured 5 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses in the league since then.

However, Manchester City have much more to play for than Everton. Everton are playing for improvement going into next season, while City are actively fighting for a Champions League spot, and still playing in the FA Cup.

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 5 matches in all competitions and are fresh off a 5-2 thrashing of Crystal Palace, after going down two early goals.

Manchester City have a tough schedule, playing Saturday, Tuesday, then Saturday again, but this is a team that is accustomed to playing in many competitions and a team that historically kicks it into high gear during the final 8-10 matches of the season.

Pick #2: Bournemouth to Win Either Half -125 (April 19, 2025; 10:00 a.m. EST):

For my second Best Bet, I’m backing Bournemouth to win either half away at Crystal Palace.

Part of the logic here is what I discussed with City, the tough upcoming schedule of EPL matches and important FA Cup matches. While I think City can manage, I think the tough fixtures back-to-back will be too much for Palace.

Palace is coming off a 5-2 loss at Manchester City last weekend, then a 5-0 loss this past Wednesday at Newcastle. They’ll play this match against Bournemouth at home, before traveling to Arsenal on Wednesday for a London Derby, then the FA Cup semifinal next Saturday against Aston Villa. Oof.

Bournemouth just got a win against Fulham last weekend, breaking a 6 match winless streak in the League. They currently sit in 8th, but are tied on points with 9th and 10th place, so every match will be important to pick up points in order for them to secure a European place for next season.

Further, they’re currently tied with their points tally from last season, with manager Andoni Iraola saying it’s an active goal for the squad.

Pick #3: Manchester United Moneyline +140 (April 20, 2025; 9:00 a.m. EST):

For my final Best Bet, I'm taking the other side of Manchester, backing Manchester United to get the win against Wolves.

To be fair, this is a risky bet. Manchester United have been terrible this season, particularly in the League. Their manager, Ruben Amorim, stated they’ll be “playing kids” in the Premier League.

They are coming off a wild Europa League match against Lyon, where they were tied 2-2 at the end, heading to extra time with Lyon down a man due to a red card. Lyon scored twice while down a man in extra time, only for United to score 3 more within the final 8 or so minutes of extra time to win the match.

While they’ll surely be resting players, they’ll also be coming off an emotional win. They’ll still have some experience in the mix, but also may have some energetic younger players looking to make their mark off the bench or in a full start. They’ll get some rest after this match, so I expect them to play for a win.

Wolves have won their last 4 matches and have almost surely moved into a position of safety, sitting 14 points ahead of Ipswich.

While form is on the side of Wolves, I expect United to keep the momentum going from their big Europa win.

Feeling nervy? Try United to Win Either Half -135 or United Draw No Bet -150.
