Fantasy Football Philosophy

I'm sorry, you're not getting @TheGMRep for fantasy articles. At least not for the waiver wire adds and fantasy stock market pieces. Let's rip the band-aid off and announce that it will be me. Since I am now the one writing these articles I think it's important to go over my thought process and philosophy regarding fantasy football. I am in two leagues, an 8 man dynasty half ppr and a 12 team redraft custom scoring but favors half ppr. Both are TE premium. I will try to write articles as relevant as possible for both redraft and dynasty as my thoughts and opinions on players especially from the stock market side of things will heavily depend on the format. Another important thing to know about me and my philosophy is I am tired of getting my ass kicked in my dynasty league for two out of the three years it's been around now. This is year three and I'm already down Jordan Love, Tee Higgins, Marquise Brown, and I faced Saquon Barkley. I flubbed my startup in 2022 horribly and have been digging my way out. I'm talking Jerry Jeudy at 2.3, Hollywood Brown at 4.3, and Courtland Sutton at 6.3 levels of fucked. This is relevant because I do my best work when my back is against the wall which it always is. It also leads me to play more aggressively and take bigger swings on players in dynasty than I would in redraft. Striking that short term success with long term results is key in dynasty. I'm tired of losing so as long as I believe in my gut and the players I'm targeting I'm going after it.

WAIVER WIRE ADDS

This won't differ much from dynasty to redraft. The only thing that I might do a little differently is I'll give you options to immediately target but here's my biggest beef with most waiver wire articles. In large redraft leagues you are fighting an already bare wire with potentially 11 other people all wanting the same players. Good luck getting even your 2nd or 3rd options. Maybe there I'll give some targets that are reasonable to acquire but it's beating your league mates to the punch. Maybe week 1 this person wasn't best but week 2 they will break out type thing. That's a big waiver strategy for me, if I don't get my targets or I'm not moved by who's left, I'll try to forecast and get ahead on who I think will be the hot add of the future. Another key thing is pay attention to who's dropped for waiver guys. Sometimes the drops are more valuable than the adds. Plenty of people booted Achane after he was a healthy scratch week 1 last year to pick up trash. Think long term. Week 1 is always stupid, remember 2022 when Robbie Anderson exploded and was a hot add? He went nowhere. Underperforming rookies take time to develop and in dynasty that's throwing away your future.

FANTASY STOCK MARKET

Buying, selling, and trading players. This is a lot of fun especially in dynasty. When I list players for this I'll have a redraft and dynasty section where I simply say yes or no for dynasty or for redraft. Some players I will want to buy in redraft but not dynasty and vice versa. The key thing here is I'm a huge fan of KTC calculator and especially my number one DTC which is Dynasty Trade Calculator but they are not gospel. They are good gut check tests but everything has it's flaws. I'm not sponsored by either one but I do pay for DTC and will say it's my recommendation for anyone interested in a trade calculator to help you out as another resource. Main thing here is no one is putting a gun to another and forcing them to trade. I hope no coercion or phone snatching is going on at least. People decide whether or not they accept or even respond but be fair in your dealings. I believe in buying low which is smart just like anyone else but screw over your buddies and coworkers and that sweet deal you just fleeced your league mate for might be your last. No one wants to feel cheated but no one also wants to overpay. Hardest balance to strike because once you get the reputation as the guy who pulls off robberies everyone is a lot more hesitant to trade. Take advantage of panic, weird and unsustainable trends, injuries, hype, depth or lack of it, etc. and let your league mates choose between guys you are ready to be done with so it makes them feel more in control of options. In dynasty especially don't be afraid to enter long negotiations. Wine and dine your target a little. No one likes to be rushed.

CONCLUSION

I'm a regular ass guy. I honestly hated football and before 2022 hadn't paid attention since 2009. I'm not charging you anything or asking for money. It's only week 1 and it's already looking grim for me in two leagues but I'm hoping you can at least learn from my mistakes and profit in some way from my advice. I'm just really aware of what I'm talking about and the style I have is brought about from necessity of sucking so bad so I have to play harder against an already stacked deck. I'm usually struggling to be middle of the pack every year but I'm also not fleecing you out of money and selling you hopes and pipe dreams. Just trying to give relevant and real advice that translates to real results. Big name creators drive me nuts with all parroting the same crap and hot takes like if Kelce is on waivers you should pick him up. Very few people are playing in leagues like that, most of us are in shark tanks. If anything I might get really reactionary and angry responses with just how fast and loose I like to play and take massive risk. Also, at the end of the day, people who write and "make content" are just regular ass people too. Nobody is a god though they like to think otherwise. Trust your gut, trust your decision making, and at the end of the day win, lose, or draw it's just a game and all you can do is set a line. You can't play the game for them and at least you have a team and a hobby to hopefully enjoy. It's a long season and I look forward to hopefully helping people win their leagues and make some great moves. Good luck and I look forward to another season of fantasy.
