Fantasy Stock Market: Week 2

The waiver wire is a blast every week but nothing feels the same as pulling off a trade! Finding the right compensation can be tough and coming to an agreement is even harder. While we would all love to trade for Justin Jefferson, these articles are based around players that with the right compensation, are attainable. Each week throughout the season, I'll give you three buy and sell candidates.

BUY

D.K. Metcalf, WR

Metcalf only scored 4.40 points in the first game against the Denver Broncos. Elite corner Pat Surtain shadowed him on all but one of his routes. He ran a route on 90% of drop backs and played 88% of snaps. Week 1 last year was also a disappointing stat line until a touchdown late in the game bailed him out. He went on to finish the season as the WR16 in half ppr. Lockett isn't getting any younger and for the second week in a row is starting off limited. JSN could see an increased share as a result but Metcalf is far and away the receiver to own in that room. The game script led to a lot of running which is always a concern with a great RB like Kenny Walker on the roster but better days are ahead for Metcalf and the rest of the Seahawks pass catchers. Take advantage of the fear around the run game dominating and this performance and trade away a guy like Xavier Worthy in redraft or Derrick Henry in dynasty while they still have value and get a 15-24 level receiver to boost your corps.

Dalton Kincaid, TE

Kincaid only managed 2.10 points in half ppr. He had an 80% route participation and played 84% of snaps. He faced heavy coverage to the tune of double and triple coverage which is an unreal and unsustainable level of defensive coverage going forward. Keon Coleman is the only other pass catcher on that team worthwhile and with the elite level of usage it's only a matter of time before Kincaid is force fed high volume and delivers on his ADP. Give up Allen Lazard, Pat Freiermuth, Jaleel Mclaughlin, etc. some variation or combo of similar players in dynasty or redraft doesn't matter in this case and reap the rewards of an elite TE in a high powered offense with plenty of volume.

De'Von Achane, RB

This one is a bit puzzling as Achane is coming off a strong 19.50 point debut this season. Here's why he's on here, he's already hurt. I said in my fantasy philosophy article I'm not playing small strokes here, I'm going long dick style. 6th place gets the same as 8th and no one remembers the losers. I'm looking for panicked owners who don't have Jaylen Wright as the handcuff and are weak at other areas to get a deal done. If you need an RB with the wild receiving work he gets and crazy efficiency, Achane is a game breaker. All depends on how risk averse you are as buying an injured player with the potential he has can either win you the league or cost you a spot in playoffs and see you at the toilet bowl. Those players are the ones you want though, not the boring RB3s and WR4s of the world you can pull off the wire still. Take advantage of injury panic and hope he makes it at least the majority of the season as he can win you weeks by himself. In dynasty or redraft look to give up Jerome Ford and another piece. In redraft give up Xavier Worthy and maybe Josh Jacobs especially in dynasty for Jacobs and those two together should get you a shot at Achane.

Sell

Xavier Worthy, WR

Worthy wowed drafters with an impressive 19.80 points in his NFL debut. Take full advantage of this in redraft and sell for a king's ransom. If you have him in dynasty he's a solid hold but I'm selling high in redraft. Worthy drew only 3 targets and caught 2 of them. One was a touchdown on busted coverage and the other was a schemed end around he took home at 21 yards. Rashee Rice won't be suspended this year and commanded a 33% target share. Kelce was abnormally quiet and while I believe this is the last year you can sell him in dynasty this also means it's the last year he has value in redraft. Kelce will probably retire this year especially if a 3rd ring is won but regardless at least this year this is the quietest he will be all season. Hollywood Brown isn't a world beater but was inactive this game and will surely command his own share of targets when back in an offense that loves to spread the ball around week to week. Trust me I know all too well as a 2022 Juju drafter. Plus this game against the Ravens did nothing to quiet my fears about the Jameson Williams comparisons I made in my Worthy article over the summer. Package Worthy up or try to do a 1-1 in redraft and look to acquire any of the guys I listed above. You could even try to acquire Kelce who is still the guy to own in KC if you don't have Mahomes.

Allen Lazard, WR

Garrett Wilson won't have very many games here on out where he has no touchdowns. While I'm lower on the Jets than most due to poor Rodgers play, the Monday night game was an outlier. Rodgers only attempted 21 passes and I think that number will swell as early as this week. Lazard is also an example of touchdown chasing as his 23 point game was heavily boosted by two touchdowns. Rodgers himself recently said on Pat McAfee they have to get Wilson more involved here on out. Take advantage of the highest points Lazard will have all season and sell high.

Jordan Mason, RB

Before you kill me, I love Mason and he's amazing and one of my popular waiver wire adds of the week. I say to sell him if you aren't a CMC owner or you are the CMC owner but set at running back. If you aren't a CMC owner at this point with CMC looking at a real chance of missing game two and maybe even more you can practically be sadistic and charge whatever you wanted from the owner for Mason since he's proven himself Monday night. After putting up 22 points it's like a sick game of hostage. If you own CMC but have good RB depth look for an RB needy team and upgrade their RBs while shoring up and strengthening your weak position groups. Or keep him and plug and play because CMC is older with an injury history and now looking at a compound injury. Calf strain and Achilles tendinitis are a terrible combination. It's similar to Achane in how risk averse are you if you own CMC? Do you hope he comes back soon and yeah you can drop Mason or keep him in a roster spot as a handcuff or do you sell high and take advantage while his value is at it's highest and upgrade maybe your weaker QBs, TEs, or WRs? The choice is yours but the possibilities are tantalizing and almost endless.
