On the first night of the NBA, we suffered an unfortunate loss. A 2-1 record to kick off the new season isn't ideal, but there are always opportunities to improve. Now, we look forward to a big slate of 10 games tonight. With that many games on the slate, it gives us a plethora of options to choose from. Now let's take a closer look and find the three best props for tonight.
Tyrese Haliburton Over 9.5 Assists (-128)
Tyrese Haliburton at 9.5 assists might not last very long, so I would recommend grabbing this while you can. The young point guard led the league in assists last season with 10.9 APG. He helped the Indiana Pacers lead the league in APG as well. He is a phenomenal passer who is always looking to get his teammates involved.
This season, he gets to have Pascal Siakam for an entire year, as they look to replicate the success from last year when they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. The only issue with this line is that they are playing the Detroit Pistons, who were the worst team last season. They have talent and maybe the hiring of a new head coach can help turn things around, but a potential blowout is in play.
If there is a blowout, the Pacers could look to sit Haliburton for a long stretch, which would hinder his chances of reaching 10 assists. However, last season showed us that he is one of the best passers in the NBA. The first game of the season might be hard to judge, but he has averaged 10+ assists in his last two seasons. This is his calling card. I cannot envision this line being at 9.5 for the foreseeable future, which is why I think this is a mandatory play.
Ja Morant 25+ Points (-120)
The past year and a half has been rough for Ja Morant. At one point, Morant looked poised to be the next face of the league with commercials and playing at an MVP level. Then there were the gun incidents that led to his suspension, which was followed up by a season-ending shoulder injury that held him to only playing 9 games last season. This led to the Memphis Grizzlies falling to the basement of the Western Conference.
This season the Grizzlies look to turn over a new page with the help of their returning superstar. Morant is on a path of redemption and it starts tonight against the Utah Jazz. Despite only playing in 9 games last season, Morant was still at an All-Star level. He averaged 25.1 PPG on 47% shooting. He gets to show that he is still one of the best players in the NBA against a team like the Jazz that will have trouble containing him.
The Jazz allowed the 2nd-most PPG to point guards last season, along with being a bottom-10 squad in allowing points in the paint. Morant thrives on driving to the rim and finishing amongst the trees. Two seasons ago, he was in the top 10 in points in the paint as a guard.
Look for Morant to start this season on the right foot. I think he has a spectacular showing and cruises to 25 points against a dismal Jazz defense.
Nick Richards Over 7.5 Rebounds (-102)
When you think about who to bet on during the first big slate of the NBA season, I doubt people would look toward a player prop on the Charlotte Hornets. Nonetheless, I do love this play. Nick Richards has always been a solid backup center for the Hornets over the past few seasons, but nobody knows. However, he was thrust into the starting lineup for most of the season due to an injury to Mark Williams where he averaged 8.8 RPG as a starter.
This season, he gets the starting nod to kick things off due to another injury to the aforementioned Williams. The Hornets travel to Houston to take on the Rockets, who were the 7th-worst team in rebounds allowed. The Rockets did acquire Steven Adams to help this issue, but he might not play tonight. Alperen Sengun is the starting center and can rack up rebounds, but he is not the most overpowering center in the league.
Richards is athletic and could be a challenge on the glass. This is not the prettiest player prop, but I think this is very under the radar.
NBA Record: 2-1
