FITTING THE NFL MOLD

QBs come in all shapes and sizes now with scouts relying more on certain metrics to evaluate the position. They are looking for an AY/A (Adjusted Yards Per Attempts) over 9.0 which takes into account yards, touchdowns, and interceptions giving a better overview than raw YPA. They are also looking for a sack rate under 5% and an INT rate under 2%. Shough has one of the best sack rates in the draft showing an ability to avoid danger and throw the ball away. Sometimes while throwing the ball away, it ends up in the defender's hands. Shough struggles in many of the categories listed and his low QBR grades him out as a Day 3 pick.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

It needs to be said that Shough has been playing in college football for 7 seasons and this year was his first as a starter. Nobody blames him for not beating out Justin Herbert at Oregon, but it is concerning he couldn't win the job at Texas Tech. Shough looked much better this year than previous years but still shows major holes. His accuracy was a 62.7% despite having a Y/A of 8.2 and he isn't able to boost these pedestrian numbers with his athleticism either. He averaged 0.5 yds per run this year, to go along with his single rushing TD.

WATCHING THE TAPE

Shough has sloppy footwork and will too often shy away from contact and throw the ball while falling backwards on his foot. He has good arm strength and is able to put a good arch on balls to help his receivers in tight coverage. He doesn't have the fastest reads but once he finds the open man he's able to get the ball out quickly. He can throw from multiple arm angles making him more dangerous when he scrambles out of the pocket. He's a skinny guy and I saw him frequently getting up slow after hits and have concerns for his durability at the next level.

THE LANDING SPOT

Shough was the 3rd QB drafted, and he went to a Saints team that may need help this season with Carr's injury looming large. This Saints roster isn't great, but he has some interesting receiving pieces surrounding him. After Ward, it's possible Shough see's the 2nd most game action this season. Spencer Rattler had a much better college career, and he looked miserable on this team last year. He'll need a ton of help to be successful.

WHERE TO DRAFT HIM

In redraft leagues, Shough is un-draftable and shouldn't even be considered for a waiver claim until he shows signs of life on the Saints. In Dynasty rookie drafts, he is likely a third-round pick if you're desperate.
