Value Fighter: Elijah Smith, $8,500, (-198)

You has managed to win fights during his run on Road to UFC, but every one of those victories has come by decision, which isn’t exactly the kind of profile that scares you. Smith, on the other hand, is coming off a first-round knockout and has a track record of putting opponents away with heavy strikes. When you add in the six-inch reach advantage, it becomes even more interesting because Smith should be able to dictate range and land the bigger shots. If he can keep the fight where he’s comfortable, the finishing upside makes him an extremely attractive value play for lineup construction.

Fade Fighter: Brad Tavares, $8,300, (-142)

His matchup with Eryk Anders is about as close to a coin flip as you can get, and honestly props to the matchmakers because this one should be a fun fight for fans. The problem is the DFS value. Tavares grades out as one of the worst values on the entire card—second worst overall—which makes him a tough sell when building lineups. If you’re already looking at a razor-close fight, paying extra for the worse value doesn’t make much sense when you can save $400 and roll with Anders instead. The smartest approach might honestly be to avoid this fight altogether, but if I’m choosing a side to stay away from, it’s definitely the poor value attached to Tavares this week.
