Rookie Review: Makai Lemon’s Fantasy Outlook
FITTING THE NFL MOLD
Lemon is a smaller receiver and teams will likely prefer for him to play inside as the slot receiver. Lemon won the Biletnikoff Award for the best receiver in the nation last year and commanded 26% of his team's targets last season. He has sure hands with a 1.9% drop rate and plays with a high motor.
WATCHING THE TAPE
Lemon has rare toughness, balance, and agility making him perhaps the toughest receiver to bring down in this draft. He fights for every yard and sheds off DBs trying to make arm tackles with ease. He doesn’t have blazing speed but he plays fast and has enough speed to break things open if you leave him in space. His agility makes him a great option for a team that wants to run more sweeps or WR screens.
THE LANDING SPOT
Lemon lands in a situation that sets him up for immediate impact. With the expectation that A.J. Brown will be moved to New England later this year, there’s a clear path for Lemon to step in as a true Day 1 starter for the Philadelphia Eagles. Even better, he’s not walking into a messy quarterback situation like a lot of rookies do—he’ll be catching passes from Jalen Hurts, which immediately raises both his floor and long-term outlook.
That said, this isn’t a perfect, volume-heavy fantasy setup right out of the gate. Philadelphia leans heavily on the run, so expectations should be kept in check despite Lemon’s obvious talent. He’ll also be sharing opportunities with a crowded group of pass catchers the team brought in this offseason. But the key difference? Lemon won’t just be “another option.” As a first-round investment, the Eagles are going to manufacture touches for him—designing plays specifically to get the ball in his hands. That kind of intentional usage gives him a real shot to outperform typical rookie expectations, even in a lower-volume passing offense.
WHERE TO DRAFT HIM
Lemon is worth an early to mid 1st round draft pick in Dynasty leagues with one of the best long term outlooks of this year's rookie class. In redraft leagues, he should fit in the WR 30-40 range and is best suited to be drafted somewhere between the 7th and 9th rounds.
