Rookie Review: Sam Roush’s Fantasy Outlook

May 7, 2026
Sam Roush, a 6'6" TE with solid blocking skills and reliable hands, faces challenges in his NFL journey. Buried on the depth chart in Chicago, his potential as a TE2 could temper fantasy hopes. Delve into his strengths, weaknesses, and draft outlook!

FITTING THE NFL MOLD

At 6’6 and nearly 270 pounds, he has the frame to be successful at the next level. He is the best pass blocker among the TEs in this class while still being athletic enough to make some noise in the passing game. He has decent speed but at 270 pounds, he isn’t going to have game changing speed and athleticism. He saw over 50 targets in just 2 of his 4 years  at Stanford and only had 4 total career TDs which is bothersome for such a big body TE who should thrive in the redzone. His catch rate plummeted to just 58% in his final season which raises huge red flags.

WATCHING THE TAPE

Roush is sure-handed as a receiver attacking the ball with his hands instead of relying on pinning the ball to his chest. He is a reliable target who runs clean routes and can find the soft spot for his QB. He isn’t very fast but refuses to go down on first contact. He is likely best suited to be a TE 2 on a pass heavy team with potential to develop into a TE 1.

THE LANDING SPOT

This landing spot is brutal. He is buried behind Loveland and Kmet in Chicago and even if Kmet finds himself on a different team in the near future, he is nothing more than the TE 2. This landing spot likely puts Roush in one of the best spots for him from a personal standpoint where he can be a TE 2 that isn’t heavily relied on but can contribute at times. However, that also makes him nearly a non factor in fantasy football.

WHERE TO DRAFT HIM

Roush is a late round option in Dynasty leagues and is undraftable in redraft leagues.
